Maroons Chess Club Wins Sri Lanka National Rapid Team Chess Championship 2024.
The Sri Lanka National Rapid Team Chess Championship 2024 concluded with a thrilling competition on November 16, 2024, at Sasthrananda Vidyalaya, Dehiwala. Organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, the event saw participation from 85 formidable teams, showcasing the best of rapid chess talent in the country. The federation offered a total prize fund of Rs 90,000, along with medals, certificates, and trophies for the top performers.
Maroons Chess Club Crowned Champions
The Maroons Chess Club dominated the championship, finishing with an impressive score of 13 out of 14 match points. Their consistent performance throughout the seven-round Swiss format event ensured a comprehensive victory. The Glory of Kings Chess Club followed closely, securing the first runner-up position with 12 match points. In a tightly contested battle for the second runner-up spot, five teams tied with 11 match points. However, Kandyan Lions Chess Club emerged ahead based on superior tie-breaks.
