The Commonwealth Rapid Chess Championship 2024 was a resounding success for Sri Lanka, which secured a total of ten medals: one gold, two silver, and seven bronze. This impressive haul highlights the country’s emerging talent in the world of chess.

Thehas Rithmitha Kiringoda triumphed in the Under 10 Open category, earning Sri Lanka its gold medal.
Silver Medals:
- M Esandi Newansa secured a silver medal in the Under 16 Girls category.
- H P Sanuli Swethma won silver in the Under 10 Girls category.
Bronze Medals: Sri Lanka’s young chess players also excelled, winning seven bronze medals across various categories:

The championship was held from August 31 to September 1, 2024, at the Citrus Hotel in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka. Organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Commonwealth Chess Association and FIDE, the event ran parallel to the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024. It featured an open championship and youth championships, categorized by age groups: Under 08, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18, with separate events for boys and girls. A total of 320 players participated in this prestigious tournament.
