The Glory Of Kings Chess Club Clinches Title at Sri Lanka National Blitz Team Chess Championship 2024.
The Sri Lanka National Blitz Team Chess Championship 2024 concluded with an impressive victory by The Glory Of Kings Chess Club, who emerged as the champions. The prestigious tournament, organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, took place on November 17, 2024, at Sasthrananda Vidyalaya, Kawdana Road, Dehiwala. The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka awarded a total prize fund of Rs 70,000, along with medals, certificates, and trophies to the winners.
The championship was conducted in a 9-round Swiss format, with a fast-paced time control of 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment per move. A record 91 teams participated in the event, making it a highly competitive and engaging tournament.
The Glory Of Kings Chess Club dominated the championship, finishing with 15 out of 18 match points, showcasing remarkable consistency and tactical prowess throughout the rounds. Nalanda College, Colombo 10 secured the first runners-up position with 14 match points, edging out the competition on tie-break criteria. Despite a strong showing, Sokians Chess Club had to settle for the second runners-up position, tied at 14 match points but placed lower due to the tie-break rules.
